Our new Alpine Tales cocktail menu draws on the myths, legends, and breath-taking beauty of the Austrian and Bavarian Alps. These were stories once whispered in mountain villages to explain the mysterious forces of nature – sirens on riverbanks, enchanted gardens, spirits of winter, and wild lights in the forest.

Reimagined through alpine ingredients and modern mixology, each cocktail on the menu is a toast to the timeless art of storytelling. Read on as we spotlight two highlights from this collection: Lorelei and Frau Holle.

Lorelei

In German legend, Lorelei was a maiden who, after heartbreak, became a siren on the River Rhine. Her beauty and haunting song lured sailors to their ruin, becoming one of the most enduring figures in European folklore.

Our Lorelei cocktail captures her dual nature – inviting yet elusive – with a refreshing combination of cool mint, bright citrus, and a hint of spice.

Ingredients

• 45ml Tanqueray No. 10 gin
• 20ml coriander seed cordial
• 5ml Pernod
• 1 mint leaf
• 2 dashes lemon bitters

Method

1. Add all ingredients to a shaker tin.
2. Add ice and shake hard for 15 seconds.
3. Fine strain into a Nick & Nora glass.
4. Garnish with a fresh mint leaf.

Coriander Seed Cordial Method

The heart of the Lorelei lies in its coriander seed cordial, which balances spice, citrus, and sweetness. Here’s how to prepare it:

Ingredients

• 40g coriander seeds
• 600ml hot water
• 200g caster sugar
• 18g citric acid

Method

1. Take a container and add the boiling water and coriander seeds.
2. Leave the seeds to infuse for 10 minutes, then strain them out.
3. Add caster sugar and citric acid to the infusion.
4. Stir until everything has dissolved.
5. Bottle and store.

Frau Holle

One of the most revered figures in Alpine and Germanic folklore, Frau Holle governs the seasons and the weather. Legend says that when she shakes her featherbed, snowflakes drift down to earth, transforming the landscape into a realm of quiet winter beauty.

Our Frau Holle cocktail brings this story to life with warming rye whiskey, the spice of ginger, and the delicate sweetness of pear – finished with a silky foam for a snow-kissed effect.

Ingredients

• 35ml High West Double Rye whiskey
• 15ml King’s Ginger Liqueur
• 15ml Luxardo Bitter Bianco
• 1x dash Bob’s Vanilla Bitters
• 15ml Lemon Juice
• 20ml Pear Puree
• 20ml Fancy Foamer

Method

1. Add all ingredients to a shaker tin.
2. Add ice and shake hard for 15 seconds.
3. Fine strain into a rocks glass with cubed ice.
4. Garnish with a pear slice and an edible flower.
